More than one hundred former Primary Seven pupils and school officials from Kibaale District are preparing to face the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) following allegations of examination irregularities during last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

A total of 109 candidates and administrators from Nyamarwa sub-county — specifically from Kitovu Primary School and Nyamarwa Primary School — have been summoned to appear before UNEB’s Examination Security Committee. Their 2025 PLE results remain withheld, even though Senior One classes began earlier this month in February 2026.

In a letter dated February 10, 2026, UNEB instructed the head teachers and the affected candidates to report to its Kyambogo offices in Kampala on March 10, 2026, at 9:00am. The board is investigating claims that candidates may have received unauthorized support during the Science examination paper.

Anthony Birimumaiso, head teacher of Nyamarwa Primary School, confirmed that the school is coordinating logistics to transport both staff and pupils to Kampala for the hearing. He said the administrators are determined to present their defense before the committee.

Parents, meanwhile, have voiced frustration over the delayed release of results. John Birungi, whose child sat for the exams, insisted that the schools have no history of malpractice. He appealed to UNEB to ensure that responsibility, if any, falls on individuals found culpable rather than penalizing learners.

Grace Nyanjura, another parent, urged the examinations body to expedite the process, emphasizing that the school had carefully vetted candidates before registration and only retained those considered academically prepared.

According to Gorret Nambiro, the Kibaale District Inspector of Schools in charge of Guidance and Counselling, 2,627 pupils sat for the 2025 PLE across 62 examination centres in the district. Of these, 218 passed in Division I, 1,233 in Division II, 604 in Division III, 244 in Division IV, while 207 did not pass. Eight candidates missed the examinations entirely.

She clarified that only two centres — Kitovu and Nyamarwa Primary Schools — had their results withheld pending investigations. Nambiro called for patience among parents and the wider community as UNEB continues its inquiry into the alleged malpractice.
