Unidentified Woman Poses as Medical Officer, Abducts Newborn Health Facility

Upon reaching the bed of the baby girl, the suspect picked up the infant, examined her treatment notes, and informed the mother that the baby’s condition had worsened and required medication that had not yet been administered.

Police in Kassanda district are investigating the circumstances under which an unidentified woman, posing as a medical officer, abducted a three-day-old baby from Kiganda Health Centre IV. The incident occurred on March 15, 2026, in the postnatal ward of the facility.

It is reported that a couple, Muhindo Joachim and Nalubowa Ruth, residents of Katosi Cell in Kiganda Town Council, Kassanda District, brought their newborn baby girl to the health facility on March 12, 2026, after she developed complications. The baby was promptly admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where she responded well to treatment.

By March 14, 2026, the baby’s condition had improved, and she was transferred to the postnatal ward in preparation for discharge.

On the morning of March 15, an unidentified woman, appearing as a medical officer, entered the postnatal ward. She walked around attending to patients and reviewing their treatment notes. Upon reaching the bed of the baby girl, the suspect picked up the infant, examined her treatment notes, and informed the mother that the baby’s condition had worsened and required medication that had not yet been administered.

The woman then gave the mother sh10,000 to purchase the supposed medication from a nearby pharmacy, asking her to leave the ward temporarily. As soon as the mother departed, the woman seized the opportunity and fled with the baby.

The matter was promptly reported to Kiganda Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any woman found in possession of a newborn baby under suspicious circumstances, especially if she is not known to have been pregnant.
