Madagascar Knocks Out Kenya from CHAN 2024 in Penalty Shootout
A US court has sentenced three Nigerian men in their twenties to prison for a COVID-19 unemployment fraud scheme in which more than $520,000 were stolen from state and federal programs.
The three were also ordered to repay the same sum as compensation. Prosecutors said the trio had conspired with accomplices abroad to steal 168 unemployment debit cards from California, Arizona, and Nevada, using 98 of them to make over 500 ATM withdrawals, siphoning off funds which were meant for the unemployed during the pandemic.
The attorney handling the case called the scheme “heartless and criminal,” saying it exploited a system meant to help struggling Americans in a time of crisis. #DWAfrica
