Walukagga has pledged to actively campaign for Magoola, who previously contested for the National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag alongside him and Medard Sseggona.

A major twist has emerged in the Busiro East Member of Parliament race, with former aspirant Mathias Walukagga endorsing Emmanuel Magoola Matovu for the seat.

Walukagga, who was previously disqualified from the race for failure to meet the minimum nomination requirements, made the declaration at a press conference in Bulenga, citing unfair and unconstitutional processes that denied him the opportunity to contest.

“I was nominated and later de-nominated in a manner that was unfair, biased, and unconstitutional. Because of this, I cannot rally behind leaders who do not reflect the priorities of the people of Busiro East,” Walukagga said.

Kyagulanyi’s Second Campaign Trail to Mukono Brings Hope to NUP Candidates

Walukagga has pledged to actively campaign for Magoola, who previously contested for the National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag alongside him and Medard Sseggona.

Magoola had opted to contest as an independent candidate after losing the party ticket to Walukagga, who was later disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

The endorsement is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Busiro East as campaigns for the 2026 general elections gather momentum.

Walukagga’s endorsement to Magoola is against the incumbent, Medard Lubega Sseggona who challenged his candidature.

Sseggona who has been the Busiro East MP since 2011 decided to run on an independent ticket after losing the NUP flag to Walukagga.

For the few remaining days to the D-day on January 15, 2026, the battle now remains between Sseggona, Magoola and NRM’s Haji Abdul Kiyimba.
