World War Hero Dies at 100, Months After Celebrating 100 Years

Yokoboam Hibujjo, according to his children, joined the Army in 1940s during the era of 2nd world war, and 1st served in Egypt at the age of 18.

Yokoboam Hibujjo, a world war veteran has died, a few months after celebrating 100 years of his life.

Hibujjo, died on Thursday afternoon in his home in Bunghoma A village, Busaba sub-county, Butaleja district.

Doreen Kobusingye Winter, a granddaughter of the deceased, said that Hibujjo succumbed to high blood pressure. Kobusingye, described the deceased as a forgiving parent, patient and educationist.

Hibujjo, born in 1925, celebrated his birthday on August 16, officiated by Brig. Cehas Nangeso, and witnessed by Butaleja’s icons such as; Richard Waya, Cyprian Batala, Nathan Hagobi, Michael Wanje, Hajji Hasiyo, and Gershom Hirome.

Brig. Cephas Nangeso, describes Hibujjo, as a courageous soldier, believed to have been the first Munyole, to go through a military training in Sandhurst, USA. The popular academy was strictly for the royalists.

Yokoboam Hibujjo, according to his children, joined the Army in the 1940s during the era of 2nd world war, and 1st served in Egypt at the age of 18. He also worked in Uganda as a CID officer in the Uganda Police. In appreciation for his good service, Hibujjo was awarded a Veteran’s medal during the 33rd Heroes’ Day Anniversary at the Independence Grounds on June 9, 2022.

Unfortunately, Hibujjo became blind after his retirement and died a disabled man. He’s been an Anglican who lost his wife a long time ago.
