14-Year-Old P7 Pupil Gives Birth Hours to PLE

A 14-year-old Primary Seven pupil of Butenga Church of Uganda Primary School in Bukomansimbi district has given birth to a bouncing baby girl just a day to writing her final Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) papers.

The girl is said to have experienced labour pains on Monday evening and she gave birth at around 7:00pm from Butenga Health Centre IV.

Still admitted at the health facility, the girl whose names have been withheld together with her baby are all in good health conditions. She has told our reporter that she is also ready to sit for her PLE papers come Wednesday November 6, 2024. She has also said that despite the fact that she got an obstacle of having early sex that resulted in teen pregnancy, she is still determined that her dream of becoming a nurse will be able to come to pass.

A midwife at Butenga Health Centre IV who attended to the girl as she gave birth, Sr. Gorret Nabawanuka has confirmed that the latter had normal delivery and that together with her baby, they are all in good health condition.

Peter Nkambwe, the headteacher of Butenga Church of Uganda Primary School said that she is a day scholar and that they discovered that she was pregnant last week.

Nkambwe said that upon investigating who made her pregnant, they discovered that it was someone from her village and they gave up on her.

“As the school, we are waiting for her to sit for her final exams though the church is allegedly trying to prevent her from sitting for her papers.

Bukomansimbi district chairperson, Fred Nyenje Kayiira has blamed parents for not fulfilling their parental responsibilities, something he said is one of the reasons for children to engage into sexual behaviors at an early age.

Bukomansimbi Resident District Commissioner, Fred Pax Kalema has said that come what may, the girl will do her exams tomorrow without any obstacle. Kalema has said that they have already made arrangements to help her have a conduissive environment that will enable her to do her PLE without fail.
