As one approaches Nabaziza village in Kyengera town council, one is struck with a nauseating stench that practically canvasses the entire village, residents lose their appetite and at night, sleep becomes almost impossible.

All this is the result of heaps of garbage dumped in the village at night for a very long time. According to residents, the sickening smell aside, they are scared that with time, the growing heaps of garbage may culminate into a situation that may resurrect the Kiteezi incident which left scores of lives lost.

Another villager Deogratius Ssekasi said they have intermittently reported the matter to authorities with nothing being done to address the situation. He was backed by the LC I Chairman Amri Wagaba who said they stopped trucks dumping in the area long ago, but that the dumpers seem to be hiding behind the cover of night darkness and go ahead with the dumping.

The chairman for Kyengera Town Council Mathias Walukagga said that as council, they bought garbage collection trucks with the idea of ridding communities of the garbage, and out rightly banned dumping in Nabaziza because of the threat it poses, and added that he did not know it was still prevalent.

He unreservedly cautioned those engaged in the act and said that culprits would be severely reprimanded.
