One armed robber was on Friday evening put out of action as the bodaboda riders pursued two unidentified robbers who were coming from a mission.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander says the incident which happened at Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso district at around 6:20pm left two civilians injured.

Owoyesigyire says two unidentified men who were traveling on a red Hojue motorcycle registration number UGG 774A attacked a Toyota Premio number UBE 079Z parked outside N &M Salon which they shattered the windows and stole two bags.

“While fleeing, they were confronted by a boda boda rider, Tumwesigye Peter (27), who, along with Abdul Swabur (18), was shot and injured. Both were taken to Mildmay Hospital; Swabur was later referred to Mulago Referral Hospital,” he narrated.

He adds that a joint effort by boda boda riders, locals, and police led to the pursuit and neutralization of one suspect and recovery of an AK-47, the motorcycle which the suspects were traveling on and one cartridge.

“Among other things recovered from the scene of crime was a national ID (suspected to belong to one of the assailants), two mobile phones, a red bag (used to conceal the firearm) and a black bag with a ring spanner (belonging to the victim),” said Owoyesigyire adding that investigations by Kajjansi Police commenced.

He commended the swift response of the community and the bodaboda riders.
