Kirabo’s body had deep knife wounds in the chest, neck and on the belly. She was buried at Ssamba in her parents’ home.
In the evening of Thursday 17th July, a 20-year-old Winnie Namuli Kirabo, the last-born child of Charles Lukwago and Deziranta Nakanwagi of Ssamba village in Kakuuto, Kyotera district, set off from home to go and visit her elder sister Daisy Nakigudde in Masaka, at the latter’s invitation.
Before death, Kirabo was a student in S.5 at St. Mary’s S.S Ssanje, about two miles from her home.
People who last saw her alive said she was seen boarding a saloon car. Nakigudde says she last heard from her when she was communicating that she had set off from home; when she made second attempts to call her, her mobile phone was off.

According to the deceased’s relative called Simon Musoke, when they could not hear from her at night, they reported the matter to Mayanja police at Kakuuto.
The next day, a search for her was mounted and proceeded to Masaka police where they filed a report.
On Friday evening, they called her mobile number and nobody was picking it up. After about 30 minutes, someone called them and said they were holding her, and demanded a ransom of sh1m for her release.
But on Saturday, Kirabo’s phone was off and the numbers the abductors had provided for the family to send the money, were also off.
Police tracked the numbers and arrested a couple from Masaka. They were said to be the registered owners of the numbers given by the abductors.

On Saturday evening, a herdsman who was grazing cattle chanced on a body and she raised an alarm. Police picked the body and took it to Masaka mortuary as investigations continued.
