Two unidentified men suspected to be part of a gang of robbers who had stolen four goats from Bumbajja, Kiyoola and Katente villages in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district where on Thursday night burnt to ashes.

According to the eyewitnesses, the motorcycle registration number UDZ 132D which was transporting the lynched people was also reduced to ashes.

 The theft victims identified as Ibra Kibaba and Ssaabwe Kenneth, on realizing that the goats belonging to their aunt had been stolen, they raised an alarm at around 1:00am which prompted villagers to cordon off the area and comb the place for the thieves.

The two narrated that they were awoken by their aunt who first realized the theft of the goats. One live goat was recovered. Residents said the rampaging animal thieves attack their villages almost on a daily basis, slaughter their animals and carry away the carcass, leaving them with intestines.

They further said that their tormentors are youths born in the area who spend the day smoking marijuana and drinking, and added that people now share their houses with animals to save them from the thieves.

They lamented that when they arrest suspects and take them to police, after only a short period, the suspects are set free and back to their usual businesses.

Local leaders headed by the Defence Secretary have mounted night operations to curb the crime, and that several animals have been saved as a result.

Nakisunga sub-county speaker Mpanga John together with area politician Muyanja Ssenyonga appealed to police to step up vigilance and come to the rescue of the villagers.

Villagers threatened that from then henceforth, they will be killing all suspected animal thieves, instead of taking them to police from where they are released immediately, come back to the villages and continue terrorizing them.

Mukono police later collected the two bodies and drove them away to an unknown mortuary.
