The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has emphasized the important role played by Buganda clans in weaving Baganda into one formidable force, and appealed to Buganda clan leaders at all levels to go the extra mile of instilling in youths the history of the Kabakaship and its role in properly translating the implication of clans among Baganda.
This is contained in his message to Buganda clan heads, delivered by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, where he (Kabaka) disclosed that although he is as yet unable to participate in many developmental issues as he is under medical advice to rest, assuring them however that soon he will be available.

He reminded his subjects of the ever-rising challenges coming with any new steps of development in the economy, social standards and politics, advising that as usual, success will come with commitment and boldness, co-operation, and the resolve to make Buganda youths love their clans.
Kabaka Mutebi stressed instilling in youths the urge to internalize the history of the kingship and strengthening unity and other virtues valuable to Buganda kingdom.
It is this history that paints a vivid picture of what the monarchy has successfully overcome and the hurdles circumvented. This, Kabaka noted, will help the youth avoid past mistakes and how to overcome them when they strike.
Youths need to be conversant with the importance of Buganda clans and their operational mode. “This is a very important matter you must emphasize to your grandchildren; clans are a very strong pillar in strengthening the kingship, and to know that they were built along cultural norms.
The Ssabasajja is the head and major owner of land. All clan issues are centered around the pivot which is the Kabaka, and the good thing is that the Kabaka has instituted an apex body of clan heads, and appointed one of them to preside over their meetings.
“We appeal to you to further strengthen arrangements you have put in place for the advancement of your clans and your grandchildren. We shall join hands with you in all possible ways; there are other grandchildren who have engaged in various activities that have developed the kingdom, do not neglect them”, the message read.
He noted that any development comes with challenges and opposition in everything, and added that this calls for educated people in different sectors, and that it is the reason why stress is put on educating the grandchildren who will take on the mantle of the clans after the departure of the present clan leaders.
