Bp. Matovu said he is among those who open-handedly welcomed Muyanja’s decision to stand for the district chairmanship instead of standing for his earlier bid as a parliamentarian for Mukono South constituency.

The retired Anglican Bishop for Central Buganda Diocese, Jackson Matovu has asked voters to elect only time-tested leaders who have shown capability to deliver to Ugandans’ expectations.

Bp. Matovu cited National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Johnson Senyonga Muyanja seeking election to become Mukono District Chairperson.

He spoke highly of the former Mukono South legislator, Muyanja Ssenyonga who was also a long-time political head for Mukono Town Council and Mukono Municipality, saying he has portrayed himself as a capable leader to replace former LC V chairman for Mukono district, the late Christopher Godfrey Kiwanuka Musisi, whom he also spoke of as an exemplary leader.

The retired bishop was on Friday 26th September 2025 delivering a sermon at the blessing service for P.7, S.4 and S.6 finalists for St. John’s Education Centre and St. John’s Secondary School Namuyenje in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district.

Bp. Matovu said he is among those who open-handedly welcomed Muyanja’s decision to stand for the district chairmanship instead of standing for his earlier bid as a parliamentarian for Mukono South constituency.

“The Muyanja I know and a leader I have also watched keenly over a time in different positions, is likely to transform Mukono district, better than many other chairpersons who have been in its helm over the years,” he said, adding, “Don’t look at his political colour but look at the personality in him”.

He said Mukono district last had a hardworking chairperson years back in the person of Godfrey Kiwanuka Musisi.

“If you want to have another leader with the qualities of Kiwanuka Musisi, I wish to suggest Muyanja, whom I have known for more than 40 years,” the prelate said.

He however expressed amazement that in the new wake of political enthusiasm sweeping through the country, even 30-year-old politicians are seeking support to lead the nation, and appealed to students to desist from the temptation of joining politics prematurely.

He appealed to the candidates to hand their lives to God, and to desist from depending on fetishes during their examinations, and to always pray even up to the last minute before opening their examination papers, with assurances that God is ready to answer their prayers.
