Workers’ Member of Parliament, Dr. Abdulhu Byabakatonda who was arrested shortly after nomination in a bid to renew his parliamentary bid, has been arraigned in Buganda Road court on charges of obtaining money by false pretense.
He was charged before Magistrate Jalia Basajjabalaba for allegedly obtaining USD22,000. He was produced under heavy guard and security.

Prosecution stated that while still the chairman of the Divestiture Committee of the Departed Asians Property Custodian Board (DAPCB), he fraudulently collected USD22,000 from a trade identified as Asuman Nkambwe in July 2019, alleging that it was a mortgage fee for on buildings along Martin Road and Rashid Khamis Road in Kampala.
Recently, another parliamentary candidate for Mukono South constituency, Mubarak Ssekikubo was arrested by operatives of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) shortly after nomination on charges of soliciting for bribes from job seekers in Mukono district.
Ssekikubo is alleged to have collected over sh38m on behalf of the District Service Commission, and is remanded alongside other suspects including Ronald Ssaku, working with Lugazi Municipal Council.
