DF’s Allan Mawanda Attacks Nambooze For Wanting, Abused Leadership

Mawanda noted that today is the time to end a situation where the 315 industries in Namanve only supply sickening toxic gases instead of jobs for the millions of unemployed youths in the constituency.

The Democratic Front (DF) parliamentary candidate for Mukono Municipality Allan Mawanda has advised voters against electing politically fatigued, those out to settle scores for disgruntlement, fruitless noise makers and the aged with nothing new to offer.

“If retirement age in the civil service stands at 60, do you stick on because you want to leave after having become a headmaster, even after clocking 60? If you elect one only bent on settling issues with the person who denied him or her a party card at primaries, where is your advantage? And if you elect a person with ten schools, you should know that he or she is looking for money to set up an eleventh school,” Mawanda cautioned voters.

From left, Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze Bakireke, Mukono District Woman MP, Hanifah Nabukeera and Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, Mukono district chairman who are all vying for Mukono Municipality MP seat.

Mawanda, who was on Tuesday November 11, addressing journalists at a press briefing he held in Mukono, said that a person who has been in parliament for 20 years with no tangible differences being credited on her account is most likely to be amassing money for buying a mansion in Texas.

Speaking in tales at one point, the youthful speaker of Mukono Central Division Council compared a cock which crows to tell time or warn of an advancing enemy like a serpent, to a weaver bird which only makes sickening noise, and summed up Mukono’s representation in parliament to the latter.

“In Democratic Front, we believe that Mukono deserves better; its voice has for long been known only for shouting not-much-sense on media outlets, but this is not the representation we need in a vibrant, fast-growing town,” he observed.

In a no-nonsense manner, the DF aspirant says that at 529 MPs, Uganda’s parliament, which is rising to 557 after the forthcoming elections, is unnecessarily too big and needs to be trimmed to an affordable and cost-effective size, commensurate with the sh40m payable to each legislator every month.

He reasoned that with such a size, even if you gave each MP a chance to speak every day, they will not have been covered in one year and in any case, Mawanda argues, why pay sh40m from the taxpayers’ coffers, a person who will spend five years without even ever as much having coughed in the house?

He took a swipe at candidates who ferry supporters to campaign rallies, and summed up their action simply as merry making and not campaigning, and warned merrymakers travelling on double decked vehicles and hundreds of bodabada cycles, that they should know that this is the package they should ever expect from such leaders if elected.

He said that since UBOS has declared numbers of residents in each village they are visiting, they should go and ask these people for votes rather than transporting hundreds of supporters and at the end of the day carry them back from wherever they picked them.

He was sad to note that today, if you asked any MP how much drugs or what type of drugs are supplied to their health centre by the National Medical Store every month, how they are dished out to patients, his bet is that none would have answers on their fingertips.
