Hundreds of school going children, youths and local leaders in Mukono Municipality and Mukono district have today’s morning graced the Run to Green Schools Marathon.
The marathon which is intended to raise funds to buy trees which will be planted in schools around the district has kicked off from Mukono district headquarters grounds covering different areas in Mukono Municipality.
Organised by Funga Pengo Development Initiative Africa, the marathon has attracted local leaders like the former Mukono district chairperson, Andrew Ssenyonga, former Mukono Municipality mayor, George Fred Kagimu, Mukono Central Division Speaker Allan Mawanda, Abdul Majala Nsubuga who has represented the people with disabilities, among others.
The schools in attendance are; St. Stephen’s Senior Secondary School Ddandira Mukono together with it’s director, Jonathan Mawanda, Mukono Town Muslim, St. John’s Senior School Kauga and many others.
Lauben Ssenyonjo, the councillor representing the youth in Mukono district council who is the lead organizer has asked leaders, civil servants, parents and all the Ugandans at large to always embrace the tree planting campaign before it’s too late. Ssenyonjo says this is just the beginning.
