Fear has gripped the students, teachers and parents of Teso Progressive Academy following the fatal shooting of a Senior Three student by a police officer.
According to the eyewitnesses, the student, Gabriel Okiror died on spot yet the teacher who had tried to intervene has been gravely injured.
The incident has left students, parents and community members worried, raising alarm over the grave conduct of a police officer who is expected to protect the student.

It’s alleged that the deceased, Okiror, was handed over to police after being accused of theft but he resisted arrest, leading to a confrontation with a female police officer, during which the firearm discharged.
The victim, Bernard Majja, a teacher who tried to intervene, sustained serious injuries. He has been rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
School director, John Omugur described the incident as a routine disciplinary matter that spiraled out of control.
“We never imagined a disciplinary issue could end in such tragedy,” he said.

Parents have condemned the incident as excessive and avoidable, calling for immediate suspension and prosecution of the officer involved.
“Our children should feel safe at school, not threatened by those meant to protect them,” one of the parents said.
By press time, the police authorities in the region had not yet released any statement in regards to this incident.
Meanwhile, Teso Progressive Academy has suspended classes as post-mortem examination and inquiries proceed.
