Kawala confirmed through a police statement that the DNA results have since returned positive, confirming that the body recovered in Nagalama was that of the missing juvenile, Aneza Merisa.
The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan North are investigating the murder of Aneza Merisa, a student at Naalya SS, Lugazi Campus.
Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson said that the case of Aneza’s disappearance was first reported to Wandegeya Police Station on November 6, 2025 by her mother, Kamuganga Sarah.
On November 10, 2025, Kawala said that a decomposing body was recovered from Musaale Swamp in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, under Nagalama Police Division.
“The body was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labeled “Nanyonga VII,” suggesting that the victim may have been a student,” she said, adding;
“Due to the body’s advanced state of decomposition, it was buried by mortuary staff in Kayunga. However, as the investigation progressed, police sought and obtained a court order to exhume the body for proper identification. DNA samples were extracted and submitted to the Forensics Headquarters in Naguru.”

She said that Police are now treating the case as murder and that investigations have since commenced.
“Detectives are following leads to establish the circumstances under which Aneza was killed and her body dumped in the swamp. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and assure the public that we are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice,” she said.
Kawala said that Aneza’s body was handed over to the relatives for burial on Saturday.
