Wamala noted that the infrastructure developments in Mukono schools have in turn brought to an end the situation where teachers used to be looked at with inferiority and lack of trust from parents who entrust their children to them for proper upbringing and counselling.

Mukono Municipality is making big strides in primary education, with government-aided schools excelling as well. The stakeholders in the education department are crediting the successes to improved infrastructures.
According to Mukono Municipality Town Clerk, Francis Byabagambi, Mukono Municipality has 34 government-aided schools and in the last one and a half years, they have worked hard to see that these institutions improve in terms of infrastructure.
Byabagambi has outlined achievements scored in these schools by way of infrastructure development, citing numerous classroom blocks, toilet facilities, desks, teachers’ quarters, among others.

He is happy to note that no more learners sit on the bare ground during classes in Mukono Municipality with enough classroom blocks.
“We built two-classroom blocks at Bishop East Primary School, Nsambwe Church of Uganda Primary School, Nyenje CU, Kiwango UMEA Primary School plus the renovation of a number of classrooms at this very school after they were deroofed by the hailstorm,” he said.
“We invested heavily in the completion of classroom blocks at Namilyango Junior School and St. Thereza Girls Boarding Primary School; all these buildings were started by the parents.”
The town clerk also highlighted a number of schools which received modern toilet facilities and teachers’ quarters including; Seeta UMEA, Nyenje CU, Bishop East Primary School, Ngandu Primary School, among others.

Following the above developments registered in different schools, Byabagambi told teachers that they have been put in place not by the money from Mukono Municipality but from the central government.
“Therefore; whoever tells you to discard the government for non-performance must be rejected for myopic and being unappreciative,” he urged.
He acknowledged the conducive working political atmosphere with the Municipality Mayor, Erisa Mukasa Nkoyoyo and his councilors enabling the teachers, headteacher and school inspectors to amicably do their work without any interference.
Susan Wamala Sserunkuuma, the chairperson for Mukono Municipality Headteachers Association has extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Government for these infrastructures that have made schools a safe and interesting place for both the pupils and the teachers.

According to Wamala, the new classrooms have reduced congestion, improved the quality of teaching and learning, and created a safe and comfortable space for the pupils.
And on the part of the teachers’ quarters, they have made it easier for the dedicated teachers to remain close to the schools, strengthening their commitment and ensuring consistent support for learners.
For the newly constructed toilet facilities, Wamala said that they have greatly improved hygiene and sanitation, contributing to the health and dignity of all the learners and staff.
To crown it all, Wamala noted that the infrastructure developments in Mukono schools have in turn brought to an end the situation where teachers used to be looked at with inferiority and lack of trust from parents who entrust their children to them for proper upbringing and counselling.

As a sign of appreciation for the good work done by the headteachers, the Town Clerk hosted them for the end of year party at Grand Praclos Gardens located at Nassuuti in Mukono Central Division.
Among the day’s guest speakers, the Commissioner for Urban Administration in the Ministry of Local Government, Charles Magumba advised teachers to turn a deaf ear to people urging them to disassociate with the NRM government, saying they are opportunists wishing evil for the education sector which has vastly benefitted through infrastructure development in schools.
Magumba likened people advising teachers to de-campaign government, to a person advising one to cut the tree he is sitting on.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Mukono Municipality Rhonda Tiitwe Kagaga appreciated the teachers for the good work done throughout the year.

“Myself understand the value of teachers, when I drop my daughter at school in the morning, she safely stays there until when I pick her up in the evening,” she said.
She also noted that unlike other teachers in public schools, for the ones in Mukono Municipality, they do not involve themselves in strikes and in that way, they make the work of their supervisors easy.
