A National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate in the Makindye Division mayoral race, Yasini Omari, has been declared unopposed after the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified all his challengers.
Eleven candidates, including National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Bosco Lusagala and other parties, have been disqualified for failing to meet EC’s nomination requirements.
The Electoral Commission stated that the candidates’ nomination signatures were invalid, rendering their bids non-compliant with electoral guidelines.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some welcoming the enforcement of electoral laws and others raising concerns about the nomination process and political competition.
