Nakwedde’s Win in Doubt as Court Hears NRM’s Vote Recount Application

The court hearing, presided over by Chief Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa, will determine whether to tally results from all the 105 polling stations.

Security is tight in Kayunga District as the court prepares to rule on NRM’s Jackline Birungi’s application for a recount of ballots in the disputed Woman MP election.

Birungi alleges that she was denied victory when the Kayunga district returning officer, Doglous Twine declared NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde winner without tallying all polling stations.

The court hearing, presided over by Chief Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa, will determine whether to tally results from all the 105 polling stations.

NUP supporters have been barred from accessing the court premises, adding to the tension following the heavy deployment in all the town centers in Kayunga district.

Nakwedde led with 20,753 votes, followed by the incumbent, Ida Erios Nantaba (Independent) with 16,138, and Birungi third with 15,790 votes. The outcome is awaited anxiously.
