One of Fr. Kituuma’s most notable roles was serving as Rector of Katigondo National Major Seminary from 2007 to 2023.

The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, has regretfully announced the death of Rev. Fr. Herman Kituuma, a devoted priest who faithfully served the Church for decades. Fr. Kituuma passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Lubaga Hospital.
Rev. Fr. Herman Kituuma was ordained to the priesthood in 1984 and dedicated his life to pastoral ministry, priestly formation, and service to the Catholic faithful. Over the years, he became widely respected for his commitment to nurturing future priests and strengthening the Church’s mission.
One of Fr. Kituuma’s most notable roles was serving as Rector of Katigondo National Major Seminary from 2007 to 2023. During his tenure, he guided and mentored many seminarians who have since gone on to serve the Church in various dioceses and communities. His leadership at the seminary left a lasting impact on priestly formation in Uganda.

The funeral for the late priest will take place on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the cemetery of Bukalasa Minor Seminary. Holy Mass will begin at 12:00 noon, after which he will be laid to rest.
In a statement issued by the Chancellor of Masaka Diocese, Fr. Charles Jude Jjuuko, the diocese called on the faithful to pray for the repose of Fr. Kituuma’s soul and to remember his years of dedicated service to the Church.
Masaka Diocese joins the wider Catholic community in mourning the loss of a humble servant of God whose life was devoted to faith, formation, and ministry.
