The Pope in his powers as the Administrator of Major Seminaries has appointed Fr. David Ssenkaayi as the Rector of Katigondo National Major Seminary and honoured him with the title of Monsignor ending at the end of his assignment.
Fr. David Ssenkaayi hails from Kampala Archdiocese, Mitala Maria Parish. On the same note, the Episcopal conference appointed Fr. Tamale Mugagga as his Vice Rector from Masaka Diocese. Fr. Mugagga is the current vocations director of Masaka Diocese.
Father David Ssenkaayi was born on October 12, 1970 at Nsangwa in Mitala Maria, Kampala Archdiocese. He studied in Nswanjere Preparatory Seminary (PLE), Kisubi Minor Seminary (O and A-level).
He joined Katigondo National Seminary in 1991 for Philosophy. He joined Ggaba National Seminary in 1995 graduating with a Bachelor of Theology degree from Urbaniana University. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala on August 14, 1999 in Lubaga Cathedral. After ordination he was assigned to Lubaga Cathedral Parish where he served as curate from 1999 to 2001.
In August 2001, he was appointed to Katigondo National Seminary to teach Bible and Christian Ethics. Between 2006 and 2008 he went for further studies in the Catholic University of Eastern Africa Nairobi where he graduated with a Licenciate (Master of Theology degree) in Biblical Studies. In 2009 he returned to Katigondo Seminary and continued to teach Bible and Biblical Greek.
In 2018 he went back for further studies at CUEA for a PhD in Biblical Theology. He was appointed Rector of Katigondo Seminary with effect from July 1, 2023. He replaces Fr. Herman Kituuma of Masaka Diocese who served from 2007 to 2023.
