The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has announced the passing of Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, the father of former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Olanyah.
In a message shared on X, Among expressed her condolences, saying: “It is with a heavy heart that I inform our esteemed colleagues, the parliamentary fraternity, and all who loved our brother, the late Rt Hon Jacob Olanyah, that his father, Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, has passed away at the age of 97 at St Mary’s Hospital, Lacor. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and all his loved ones.”
She added that funeral arrangements would be communicated after consultations with the family.
The news has since sparked an outpouring of sympathy from fellow lawmakers and members of the public, many of whom continue to remember Olanyah’s contribution to Uganda’s political landscape.
