It’s a sad morning to the supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) and the country at large following the death of one of the party’s stronghold, Mzee William Byarugaba commonly known as Jajja NUP.

According to NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine, Byarugaba who has for some time been battling cancer, passed on at Boston Medical Centre. Bobi Wine passed on the information through his social media handles and his messages goes as follows:

“We have woken up to the sad news of the passing of Mzee William Byarugaba commonly known as Jajja NUP, who has been serving as the head of the Elders’ Wing of the National Unity Platform.

Mzee Byarugaba has been battling cancer at Boston Medical Centre in the USA. He has been a great statesman who devoted the latter days of his life to the struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda. He was very knowledgeable about our country’s history and the present trajectory.

It is very unfortunate that he has passed on without seeing the New Uganda that he always envisioned and preached about. Very grateful to our community in Boston who received him and became his family away from home. Deepest condolences go to his dear wife, his children and all his friends.

May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
