According to court filings, Anywar is seeking the nullification of Amere’s victory and is calling for a fresh election to ensure a free and fair process for voters in Kitgum Municipality.
State Minister for Water and Environment, Betty Anywar, has taken her electoral battle to the High Court, formally challenging the victory of her political opponent in the Kitgum Municipality parliamentary race.
Anywar is contesting the election of Denis Onekalit Amere, alleging that the electoral process was marred by serious irregularities that undermined the credibility of the final results. In her petition, she points to claims of multiple voting and alleged tampering with the voters’ register, arguing that such actions distorted the will of the electorate.

The case adds to a growing list of election-related disputes following the recent polls, reflecting heightened scrutiny over the conduct of the electoral process in several constituencies.
In a related petition, former Chua West aspirant Allan Akena has also challenged the outcome of his race, contesting the victory of Simon Peter Oryema Adum. Akena alleges that voter bribery and intimidation influenced the results, and he too is seeking legal redress.
The High Court is expected to review evidence from both petitions before making determinations that could potentially alter the political landscape in the affected areas.
As the legal proceedings unfold, attention now turns to the judiciary to address the allegations and reinforce public confidence in Uganda’s democratic processes.
