After 26 years of dedicated service and contribution to Makerere University, Deputy Academic Registrar in charge of Undergraduate Admissions and Records, Charles Ssentongo, has retired from university service.
Ssentongo officially handed over his responsibilities to Justus Karegyeya during a handover ceremony held Thursday at the Senate Building, Level 3, attended by the Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, as well as staff and colleagues.
The ceremony also served as an opportunity for the Makerere University community to celebrate Ssentongo’s longstanding contribution to the institution and recognise the impact of his work over more than two decades.
Prof. Buyinza described Ssentongo’s retirement as a transition from one life cycle to another, assuring him that Makerere University will continue to value his service and that he will remain an important part of the university’s history and enduring legacy.
He commended Ssentongo for his distinguished service, particularly his leadership of the Undergraduate Admissions and Records portfolios, which he has overseen for the past 16 years.

In accepting the responsibilities, Karegyeya pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and continue advancing the work of the admissions and records offices.
The handover marked both the end of a 26-year chapter in Ssentongo’s career at Makerere and the beginning of a new chapter under Karegyeya’s leadership.
