Hon. Paul Mwiru has been appointed the new opposition Chief Whip, replacing Nambweshe. He will be deputised by Hon. Harrient Nakweede, the Kayunga District Woman MP.

The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has retained Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP) for the upcoming 2026–2031 parliamentary term.
The announcement has today been made by the party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, during a press conference held at the party headquarters in Kampala.

Rubongoya has also confirmed changes within the opposition parliamentary leadership, naming John Baptist Nambweshe as the opposition representative on the Parliamentary Commission, Parliament’s top administrative and governing body.
