Among his key priorities is the rehabilitation of a damaged drainage channel, which he described as a major safety and security concern for the community.

The race for the Local Council I (LCI) chairperson seat in Nsambwe ‘A’ Cell, Mukono Central Division, has taken a new twist after the outgoing chairperson endorsed NTV journalist Daniel Mwesigwa Ssenfuma for the position.
The incumbent chairperson, Ibrahim Kibirige, had initially planned to seek another term but reportedly withdrew his bid after Mwesigwa joined the race.
Kibirige later accompanied the journalist and his supporters during the nomination exercise, publicly signalling his endorsement of the new candidate.
Sources close to the outgoing chairperson said he privately acknowledged that Mwesigwa’s entry had significantly altered the political landscape, making it difficult for him to retain the seat.
Following his nomination, Mwesigwa, a Nation Media Group correspondent based in Mukono District, unveiled his agenda, which focuses on strengthening community unity, promoting teamwork among village leaders, mobilising development opportunities and improving residents’ livelihoods.
He pledged to work closely with residents to lobby for essential services and development projects while ensuring transparent, accountable and inclusive leadership.
Among his key priorities is the rehabilitation of a damaged drainage channel, which he described as a major safety and security concern for the community.
Mwesigwa alleged that residents had previously contributed money towards repairing the drainage channel, but the project was never implemented.
“As a village, we contributed money to rehabilitate the drainage channel, but the funds were allegedly diverted and no accountability was provided by the current leadership. We shall prioritise transparency and ensure community resources are used for their intended purpose,” Mwesigwa said.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the current village leadership had not responded to the claims by the time of publication.
The forthcoming LCI elections are expected to generate keen interest across Mukono Municipality as residents elect grassroots leaders responsible for local governance, community mobilisation, service delivery and the resolution of local disputes.
