The State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), working together with Kira Police, has arrested a man accused of defrauding investors in a failed cattle supply deal worth sh70m.

The suspect, identified as Godfrey Karingiri, was apprehended on Friday following a complaint lodged by Mr. Ismail Ustun, a Turkish national, and Patrick Kavuma, who are directors of Alif Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

According to SHIPU, the complainants allege that Karingiri received a deposit of sh70m in December 2025 to supply cattle. However, he allegedly failed to deliver the cows as agreed and has not refunded the money despite repeated demands.

Following his arrest, Karingiri was transferred to Kira Police Station, where he remains in custody as investigations into the alleged offences of fraud and obtaining money by false pretences continue.

SHIPU said the arrest forms part of its ongoing efforts to protect both local and foreign investors from fraudulent business practices that undermine confidence in Uganda’s investment environment.

The unit, operating under the guidance of Col. Edith Nakalema, reiterated its commitment to working with law enforcement and other government agencies to resolve investor complaints, promote accountability, and safeguard the country’s investment climate.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have urged members of the public to exercise due diligence when entering into business transactions.
