The High Court in Bushenyi District has acquitted Dr. Gilverse Twine of rape and incest charges involving his biological daughter, bringing to an end a high-profile criminal case that had kept him on remand since 2022.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Amos Kwizera, the court found that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
A discharge order issued by the High Court on July 20, 2026, declared Dr. Twine not guilty of two counts of rape under Sections 123 and 124 of the Penal Code Act and one count of incest contrary to Section 149 of the Penal Code Act. The court ordered that he be discharged forthwith unless he was being held on other lawful charges.
