A remarkable story of survival has emerged from the devastating King David Junior School road accident after a young pupil who had been presumed dead was discovered alive in the mortuary at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
The boy, identified only as Keith, is among the pupils involved in the horrific crash that claimed the lives of more than 30 people, including learners, teachers and the school’s director, Tadeo Ssekidde.
According to information available, Keith had been taken to the hospital mortuary after he was believed to have died in the crash. However, while another grieving parent was searching for the body of their own child, they reportedly noticed Keith moving his fingers.
The parent immediately alerted medical personnel, who rushed to examine the boy and confirmed that he was still alive. He was promptly removed from the mortuary and given emergency medical treatment, in what many have described as a miraculous turn of events.
News of Keith’s survival has sparked emotional reactions from relatives and members of the public. Many have praised God, describing his survival as a miracle. Others have expressed personal beliefs that the Catholic devotional pendant (“omudaali”) he was wearing around his neck may have protected him, while others have shared different interpretations of the extraordinary incident. Authorities noted that some of the victims sustained injuries so severe that their bodies are beyond recognition, making identification difficult.
