Traffic Police Intercept Taxi Carrying Pupils in Unsafe Conditions, Driver, Coach Detained

Police urged institutions organizing school trips and sporting activities to ensure that children are transported in roadworthy vehicles that comply with traffic laws, noting that enforcement operations will continue across the country to curb dangerous practices and protect road users.

Traffic Police at the New Nile Bridge checkpoint in Jinja on Sunday intercepted a taxi transporting several pupils from Golden Soccer Academy, Jinja, after officers found the children were being carried in unsafe conditions while travelling to Buikwe District for a football tournament.

 

According to a traffic report shared by Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the vehicle was stopped during a routine operation at the checkpoint, where officers discovered that the pupils were being transported in a manner that violated road safety regulations and posed a risk to their lives.

Following the interception, the taxi driver and the team’s coach were arrested and detained as police launched investigations into the incident. Authorities say the pair will face appropriate legal action once the investigations are concluded.

 

Traffic Police have repeatedly warned motorists, schools, and sports academies against transporting children in unsafe or overloaded vehicles, emphasizing that the safety of young passengers must always take precedence over convenience or cost.
