Fr. Ssekiziyivu also encouraged Christians to regularly receive the Sacrament of Penance, saying it spiritually prepares believers to worthily receive the Holy Eucharist and strengthens their relationship with God.
Rev. Fr. Michael Ssekiziyivu, the Curate of St. Andrew Kaggwa Kichwa Mpoma Parish, has called on Christians to uphold modest dressing whenever they attend church, saying decent attire reflects reverence for God and respect for the sacredness of worship.
Fr. Ssekiziyivu noted that many Christians begin their faith journey with a strong sense of dignity and commitment, especially during important milestones such as First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and their Solemn Last Commitment, when they wear white garments as a sign of purity. However, he observed that some abandon these values as they grow up.
“Decent clothing should be maintained whenever one is going to church. It is the responsibility of parents to nurture their children in a way that honours God and encourages them to do what pleases Him,” he said.
The priest made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over a First Holy Communion Mass at St. Andrew Kaggwa Kichwa Mpoma Parish, where more than 200 children received their First Holy Communion, while others made their Solemn Last Commitment.
The candidates were drawn from several schools within the parish, including Mpoma Girls Primary School, St. Andrew Kaggwa Kichwa Primary School, Victorious Junior School Kabembe, Mt. St. Henry’s High School, Kisowera Secondary School, and other learning institutions.
