The incident comes as police continue to enforce traffic laws and crack down on motorists whose conduct puts the lives of other road users at risk.
A truck driver has been arrested at Maya Police Checkpoint in Mpigi District after he allegedly failed to stop when directed by traffic police.
The driver, identified as Oponya Martin, was driving a Sino truck, registration number UA 367AM, when traffic officers attempted to stop him at about 8:00pm on Sunday.
According to Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura, Oponya was intercepted at Maya Checkpoint, where further checks allegedly found him driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence.
“He was subsequently arrested and is being held at Maya Police Station pending court proceedings,” Kananura said.

Police also said the owner of the truck has been charged with permitting a person without a valid driving licence to operate the vehicle.
