Bus Driver Arrested Over Fatal Crash Involving Train and Mwebaza High School Students

Police in Mukono District have arrested the driver of a Friendship Coaches bus involved in a fatal road crash that left several students injured and caused damage to a railway train.

 

The suspect, identified as Kikomeko Christopher, was arrested on Monday following investigations into the crash that occurred on July 10, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m.

 

According to Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the bus was carrying students of Mwebaza High School in Kakiri, Wakiso District, when the crash occurred.

Kananura said investigations into the incident had been completed and the driver is expected to face multiple charges in court.

 

“The suspect is expected to face 44 counts,” Kananura said in a statement posted on his X handle.

 

The charges include one count of reckless driving, one count of causing death by reckless driving, 40 counts of causing bodily injury and one count of causing damage to a railway train.

 

Police said Kikomeko will be presented before court to answer the charges and undergo the appropriate legal process.

The arrest comes after police conducted investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which involved the school bus and a railway train.

 

Police have continued to warn motorists, particularly drivers of passenger vehicles, to exercise maximum caution on the roads and observe traffic regulations to prevent crashes and loss of lives.
