According to the particulars of the offence, Watera, who was employed as a Health Inspector at Nakigo Sub-county in Iganga District, allegedly stole 123 bales of government mosquito nets between September 2023 and April 2025.
Iganga District Health Inspector Watera Grace Mirica and four others have been charged over the alleged embezzlement and illegal dealing in 123 bales of government insecticidal mosquito nets valued at sh53.775m.
The accused appeared before court on allegations of misappropriating government mosquito nets meant for public health programmes in Iganga District.
The charge sheet dated July 17, 2026, identifies the other accused as Abongola Fred, a senior education assistant; Waiswa Geoffrey, an education assistant at Bugabwe Primary School; Namukasa Jane alias Mama Mentor, a self-employed resident of Bugabwe “B”; and Basalirwa Geoffrey, a businessman.
They are jointly facing an embezzlement charge contrary to Section 18(a)(d)(iii) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap. 116.
