In Mpumu Archdeaconry, Bugoye CoU registered 15 candidates, but one did not sit the examination and the remaining 14 were ungraded. Bunyama CoU also registered 15 candidates, with only one scoring Division Four and the other 14 ungraded.
With just over a month to the start of the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), performance in the Mukono Diocese mock examinations has raised concern, with several schools recording extremely poor results.
The PLE will officially begin with the briefing of candidates on October 30, 2026, and the writing of the papers on November 3, but results from the diocesan mock examinations released on Tuesday indicate that some schools still have significant ground to cover.
The mock examinations attracted 7,999 candidates, of whom 2,944 scored Division U, according to results released by the Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Enos Kitto Kagodo.
At least several schools recorded cases where all or nearly all candidates were ungraded, an indication of the challenges they face ahead of the national examinations.
2,944 Candidates Score Division U in Mukono Diocese Mock Exams
In Bbaale Archdeaconry, Kirisiru Church of Uganda Primary School registered five candidates, of whom four were ungraded while one did not sit the examination. Namulaba CoU had 18 candidates, all of whom scored Division U, while Wabunyonyi CoU had 14 and Najwenge CoU had 10 candidates in Division U.
In Kangulumira Archdeaconry, all six candidates from Kikwanya CoU were ungraded. Nsiima CoU registered 20 candidates, with one scoring Division Two, another Division Four and 18 remaining ungraded.
At Nyiize CoU, 69 candidates sat the examination, with four scoring Division Three, seven Division Four and 58 ungraded.
The situation was also worrying in Ngogwe Archdeaconry. Luwombo Primary School had all its 17 candidates ungraded. Makonge Public School registered 10 candidates, of whom only one scored Division Four while nine were ungraded.
Zzitwe Primary School had 22 candidates, with three scoring Division Four and the rest ungraded. At Muvo Primary School, four of the 10 candidates scored Division Four while the remaining six were ungraded.
At Ssenyi CoU Primary School, five of the 22 candidates scored Division Four, leaving 17 ungraded.
In Lugazi Archdeaconry, all three candidates from Kitoola Primary School were ungraded. Kasonga CoU registered 20 candidates, with 11 scoring Division Four and the rest ungraded.
Naggojje CoU had only three candidates scoring Division Four out of 17, while Namulaba CoU recorded three Division Four grades among six candidates.
Busaabaga CoU registered 27 candidates, with one scoring Division Two, five Division Four and 21 remaining ungraded.
In Bukoba Archdeaconry, Kabawala CoU registered 14 candidates, but only one attained Division Four.
Ddiikwe CoU had 21 candidates, with one scoring Division Three, three Division Four and 17 ungraded. Ggonve CoU registered 22 candidates, of whom six scored Division Four, while the rest were ungraded.
At Kiwafu CoU, 13 of the 38 candidates scored Division Four, leaving 25 ungraded, while Namasumbi CoU had three candidates in Division Four and six who were ungraded.
In Mpumu Archdeaconry, Bugoye CoU registered 15 candidates, but one did not sit the examination and the remaining 14 were ungraded.
Bunyama CoU also registered 15 candidates, with only one scoring Division Four and the other 14 ungraded.
In Kasawo Archdeaconry, all 15 candidates from Kimegga CoU were ungraded, as were all four candidates from Nakaswa CoU.
Nakasenyi CoU registered three candidates, two of whom scored Division Four while one was ungraded. Maggwa CoU had 16 candidates, with three scoring Division Four and 13 ungraded.
At Ntunda CoU, 38 candidates sat the examination, with 17 scoring Division Four while 21 scored Division U.
Overall performance
The diocesan examinations committee said 7,999 candidates sat the mock examinations from Church of Uganda-founded schools and a few schools outside the denomination.
Of these, 334 candidates scored Division One, 1,337 obtained Division Two, 882 scored Division Three and 2,517 were placed in Division Four.
A total of 2,944 candidates scored Division U.
The results are expected to provide schools with an opportunity to identify weak areas and intensify revision before the candidates sit the national PLE in November.
