A 47-year-old man has been remanded to Luzira Prison in connection with the murder of veteran musician and Afrigo Band legend Moses Matovu, who died last week following a confrontation in Kibuli, Kampala.
Vincent Arnold Nsamba, alias Sitenda, appeared before Makindye Grade One Magistrate Aidah Nanjala on Monday and was remanded to Luzira Prison until November 3, 2026.
Nsamba was not allowed to enter a plea because the charge of murder is capital in nature and is triable by the High Court.
The prosecution alleges that Nsamba was involved in the circumstances that led to Matovu’s death following an incident at a residence in Kibuli on September 24, 2026.
Matovu, 77, reportedly went to the residence of Rose Tumusiime at about 5:30 a.m., where he allegedly encountered a man as he and Tumusiime were leaving the premises.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, preliminary investigations indicated that the incident may have followed a physical altercation. Matovu sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he later died.
Tumusiime was also brought to court on Monday but was taken away by security officers without being charged. Police had earlier identified her as a person assisting detectives with investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Police have previously said Nsamba had been identified as the male suspect in the incident and was being pursued after reportedly fleeing the scene.
