At least 21 officials in Pallisa District have been arrested and interdicted over alleged corruption and abuse of office during an anti-corruption operation led by Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara.

Among those listed in connection with the operation are the Pallisa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Dikusoka Majidu; Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Areu Simon Peter; and Principal Human Resources Officer and Secretary to the District Service Commission, Charles.

Records Assistant Officer Jessica, Treasurer Okiria Silva, Agule Town Clerk Ferdinand Opolot, and Kameke Sub-County Accountant Joseph Kirya are also among those named.

Authorities said two additional engineers were expected to be added to the list as investigations continued.
The allegations reportedly relate to the management and use of public resources in the district, although specific charges against each official had not been detailed at the time of reporting.
The operation is part of wider government efforts to investigate suspected corruption in local governments and hold public officials accountable for the management of public funds.
The arrests and interdictions do not amount to convictions, and the officials are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until the allegations against them are proved in court.
