Former Mukono District Speaker Betty Hope Nakasi has been remanded to October 21, 2026, after being charged with corruption before the Anti-Corruption Court.
Nakasi was arraigned on Friday by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
According to the prosecution, Nakasi allegedly solicited sh2m from the then Procurement Officer of Buikwe District on June 30, 2025, at the Mukono District Local Government headquarters.

The prosecution alleges that Nakasi, together with other suspects who are still at large, claimed she could use her influence over the Mukono District Service Commission to help the officer secure promotion to the position of Senior Procurement Officer in Mukono District.
In return, she allegedly demanded the money from the officer.
The case arises from investigations into allegations of extortion and the illegal sale of government jobs within Mukono Local Government.
SHACU said the investigations followed complaints involving members of the District Service Commission and some politicians in the district.
The Unit said the prosecution is part of broader efforts to investigate allegations of corruption in public recruitment and to hold accountable individuals suspected of soliciting money in exchange for government jobs.

Nakasi previously served as Mukono District Speaker before handing over office in May 2026 following the swearing-in of new district leaders.
She was also among Mukono officials arrested in July 2025 during investigations into alleged extortion of money from job seekers linked to the District Service Commission.
The latest charges relate specifically to the alleged Shs2 million solicitation involving the former Buikwe procurement officer.
Nakasi will return to court on October 21, 2026, as the case proceeds.
