With the champions’ reward rising to sh200m, the financial stakes in the title race are set to increase significantly, while the runners-up will also earn a more substantial return for their efforts.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced a major increase in Uganda Premier League prize money, raising the total allocation from sh128m to sh600m in the next financial year.

FUFA president Moses Magogo announced the increment during the 102nd FUFA Ordinary General Assembly held in Mbarara City over the weekend, saying improved revenue from the government, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA had created room for increased investment in the game.

Under the proposed prize structure, the league champions will receive sh200m, up from the current sh60m, while the runners-up will take home sh100m.

The new allocation represents a significant boost to clubs competing in the country’s top-flight league, with the increased rewards expected to intensify competition for the title and offer clubs greater financial incentives.

“We have received good news recently from our sources of income, including government, CAF and FIFA,” Magogo said, noting that several sectors of Ugandan football would benefit from increased funding.

The increment is part of FUFA’s broader plan to channel additional resources into football development, taking advantage of improved financial support from its key partners.

The increase in prize money could also strengthen clubs’ efforts to attract and retain players, improve their competitiveness and invest in better preparations for the league campaign.

With the champions’ reward rising to sh200m, the financial stakes in the title race are set to increase significantly, while the runners-up will also earn a more substantial return for their efforts.

The new prize structure is expected to take effect in the next financial year.
