The arrest comes amid reports that Muhumuza had been preparing to marry Bridget Komwaka on December 26, 2026, with the reception reportedly scheduled to take place at Munyonyo Beach.

Police have arrested two suspects, including a young man preparing for his wedding in December, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of a two-year-old girl in Kayebe-Kikuuma Village, Gayaza, Kasangati Town Council.

The suspects are Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist, and his alleged accomplice, Amusuguti Florence. Police say Muhumuza reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, where the child’s body was recovered.

The victim, identified by police as Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries, went missing on October 27, 2026, while playing with other children in the neighbourhood, according to a police statement issued on Thursday, October 29.

Her mother, Atukwatse Lillian, reported the disappearance to police the same day.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a ransom note demanding sh10m was discovered at the mother’s gate on the morning of October 28.

Police said Muhumuza was known to the child and her mother and had previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist (providing foot-care services). His residence was separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.

Investigators also recovered a mobile phone from Muhumuza, which police are examining over its alleged use in making ransom demands.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be processed in accordance with the law.

The child’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

The arrest comes amid reports that Muhumuza had been preparing to marry Bridget Komwaka on December 26, 2026, with the reception reportedly scheduled to take place at Munyonyo Beach.

Residents reportedly became suspicious of Muhumuza after recalling that he was among the last people seen with the child before she disappeared.

Police have not yet released further details about the alleged circumstances of the killing, and investigations into the case are continuing.

Owoyesigyire extended condolences to the bereaved family.
