Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that police had received the report and said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s disappearance were ongoing.
Concern is mounting over the whereabouts of Baba TV journalist Eria Jengo, who has been missing since September 10, 2026, after leaving the media house’s offices in Ntinda, Kampala.
Jengo, who works in the Baba TV newsroom, reportedly left the station at around midday to get something to eat but did not return. His colleagues became concerned after discovering that he had left behind his phones, laptop and camera—items they say he normally carries while working.
According to Baba TV, CCTV footage captured Jengo leaving the station and walking towards the Ntinda traffic lights. The footage did not show him returning to the premises, leaving his subsequent movements unclear.
The media house later received accounts from people in the Ntinda area who claimed they had seen a person believed to be Jengo being taken away in a Toyota Noah, with a Toyota Premio reportedly following behind.
However, the accounts have not been independently verified, and the identities of the people in the vehicles, as well as their registration numbers and the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, remain unclear. Baba TV has called on security agencies to investigate the reports and establish what happened.
Jengo’s disappearance was reported to Kira Road Police Station on September 11 under SD Reference 61/11/09/026. As of September 21, however, Baba TV said it had received no information on Jengo’s whereabouts, either from security agencies or the family.
His disappearance has also drawn concern from the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) and the wider media fraternity, with calls for authorities to establish his whereabouts and provide his family and colleagues with information.
Baba TV and Jengo’s family have continued appealing to members of the public who may have information about his movements after he left the Ntinda newsroom to come forward.
