Mukono district commercial officer, Kenneth Ntege has advised Pentecostal pastors to operate based on honesty and integrity adding that short of that, they will fail to make impact in their work.
Ntege called on the pastors to live up to expected standards by letting their light shine before their flocks so that they can see the positive abilities in them.
To be able to do this, he noted, they must endeavor to strive and overcome the perennial poverty among their executive leaders by incorporating the wealth creation component in their evangelism.
Ntege was making a keynote address in a one-day retreat for members of Love, Peace and Unity Pastors’ Destiny Forum held at Mt. Lebanon Christian Centre Church in Mukono Municipality on Thursday.
The forum brings together born-again pastors and religious leaders from over 50 churches from the districts of Mukono, Buikwe, Kayunga and Buvuma which comprises the Greater Mukono region. The forum is geared at identifying the most effective ways of creating a spiritual impact in their churches.
Ntege urged religious leaders to discard the tendency of working as lone players in planning for their followers, noting, “You must develop household vision involving your flocks in planning, implementing and marketing whatever you produce, and teaching them to be number one in consuming your produce”.
On fighting poverty, the commercial officer advised them to walk the poverty eradication talk, by taking a leaf from Jesus who he said began by teaching mankind how to fight poverty by working with his worldly father Joseph as a carpenter.
Earlier, the President of Love, Peace and Unity Pastors’ Destiny Forum Bishop Samuel Lwandasa castigated unnamed church leaders who he said tend to operate competitively, noting that this kills the prime objective of portraying Jesus as being the supreme.
Lwandasa who is the vision bearer of the forum, also advised pastors to work alongside their spouses to be able to galvanize respect and support from the society.
He lamented the laxity by Born-Again believers in embracing investment opportunities in Mukono district, observing that although billions of shillings have been sunk in investments in the district, a minimal percentage of Pentecostal believers again are involved.
Another speaker was Pastor Stephen Mugwanya of Bweyogerere Centre of Destiny Church in Bweyogerere, Kira Municipality who urged Christian leaders to grow much food for subsistence as a beginning point for fighting poverty, and to ensure that they eat what they produce, other than depending on the market for subsistence.
Mugwanya advised them to instill in followers the saving culture, but at the same time be wary of the multitude of conmen in the community. “To avoid conmen in fake saving groups, join only legally registered saving groups that can be followed up in case of any shortcomings or queries”, he advised further.
