The Principal of National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has lost a longtime friend and a supporter in both music and politics.
Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine has identified the deceased as Ali Byekwaso, aka Ali Benz who hails from his home village, Kanoni in Gomba district. He says Byekwaso lost his life in an early morning Tuesday road accident.
Kyagulanyi passed his condolence message on his X handle and in details it goes as follows;
“I regret to announce the sudden death of our comrade Byekwaso Ali, aka Ali Benz who tragically lost his life in an accident this morning.
Ali Benz is one of the patriotic senior friends that I have known all my life from our old village in Kanoni-Gomba.
He was a great fan and associate through the years of our music career who featured in many of our music works over the years, including the famous ‘Byekwaso’ video.
Upon joining politics, he was among the first people from Gomba that embraced the struggle and traveled the entire country with us on the campaign trail, enduring so many challenges including prison.
He was a dedicated and passionate member of People Power and NUP, and a senior foot soldier.
We shall lay him to rest tomorrow in Wasinda-Gomba at 2:00pm. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May his soul rest in peace.”
