The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese Moses Banja has issued express orders geared at streamlining the day-to-day running of church business, during a diocesan council meeting last Friday held in Bp. Dunstan Hall at Namirembe.
Among the directives, he directed the immediate halt to giving a platform to politicians to campaign in the middle of church services at a pay, and an order banning trainee lay readers from wearing the surplices and cassocks, attires only wearable by those who have completed their courses and duly instituted as ministers.

He also directed that churches institute special services in different languages instead of putting in place services for specific languages in specific churches. In that light, he directed the Archdeacon for Gayaza Archdeaconry Can. Elly Wasswa to immediately close a chapel he set up in Gayaza, reasoning that this is the sole responsibility of the bishop.
Banja directed that St. Mark Namate Church in Entebbe be expanded, and asked the chapel under construction thereat to be discontinued, and ordered church founded schools to revive the system of organizing prayer services which he noted have greatly weakened.

Earlier, Bp. Banja issued an ex-communication message of six lay readers who were referred to Namirembe from Luweero Diocese, but decided to ask for permission to upgrade to priesthood from Luwero diocese instead of seeking such permission from Namirembe.
In that light, he directed the relevant Archdeacons to replace the dismissed lay readers with immediate effect.
