Cornerstone Learners Play as They Celebrate 20 Years of Existence

Announcing the results for Mukono campus, the school sports chairman for 2025 Nathan Kissa declared Samuel House the overall winner with 408 points followed by Mayanja House with 342 points, while Birah scooped 324 points and Kezia tailed off with 258 points.

Learners of Cornerstone Junior School over the weekend defied the harsh weather characterized by a torrential downpour and put up a spirited show in their sports day event held at Mukono Boarding Primary School in Ggulu ward, Mukono Central division.

The inter-house sports event was arranged as a highlight for the school’s 20th anniversary which ran on the theme: “Breaking Barriers”.

The two campuses of Mukono and Legacy fielded time tested players to represent the four houses of Kezia, Mayanja, Birah and Samuel, and in the final count, Samuel emerged the overall winner and walked away with the prestigious trophy.

The house master for Samuel house, Godfrey Sserugga could not conceal his excitement, joy and pride after declaring his house as having lifted this year’s events. Sserugga attributed their success to team work, determination to win from day one of the rehearsals, and God’s blessing.

The Mukono Municipality Sports Officer, Silas Semuhara acknowledged the founders and administrators of Cornerstone Junior Schools for allowing the children to take part in different sports activities as encouraged by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

“Allowing learners to take part in sports is a way of helping them grow healthy in the body and alert in the mind,” Semuhara said.

He appealed to the parents to allow their children to engage in some kind of games saying it is one way of inculcating team spirit among them.

Earlier, the headmistress for Mukono Campus, Immaculate Mawanda said that this year’s sports activities are dedicated to the school’s 20th birth anniversary, noting that the period has been a period dedicated to all-round education service.

She hailed parents and well-wishers of the school for having travelled the journey together with the administration, which she said has led to shining performance at all levels.

Mawanda said sports provides a holistic education to the learners by nurturing both body and mind, and added that today, they are celebrating their children’s talents. She pointed out that each of the learners right from nursery, is given an opportunity to participate in some kind of sporting activity through their various houses.

Mukono political leaders who were part of the race between the parents and teachers, that rapped up the day.

And in Legacy campus, Samuel again topped with 189 points, followed by Kezia with 185, while Mayanja and Birah tied with 171 points each.

In the Nursery section at Mukono, Kezia topped with 408 points while Birah, Samuel and Mayanja emerged with 334, 282 and 261 points in that order. And at Legacy campus, Kezia and Samuel tied with 105 points each, and Birah and Mayanja came out second with 90 points each.

The overall points put Samuel in the 1st position with 984 points, followed by Kezia with 957, Birah 919 and Mayanja with 864 points.
