The issuance of National Unity Platform (NUP) cards to different parliamentary aspirants left a big crack in the leading opposition party.
While successful candidates are celebrating the decision of the NUP Election Management committee (EMC), the losers are spitting fire, and some have discarded their allegiance to the party and stand as independents, while others submitted their petitions challenging the EMC decision, some conceded with the decision and others still undecided.
In a dramatic development, Adam Swift Mugga who had sought the card for Lubaga South constituency, retracted the ambulance he had donated to the constituency, and asked the voters to ask Nassolo for a replacement since they had shown that she is their choice.

According to Fatumah Cassim, a member of the NUP’s Election Management Committee (EMC), 80 disgruntled members had filed their complaints to the party headquarters at Makerere-Kavule.
And Aisha Waliggo who missed the Kalungu Woman MP card to Shakirah Zzinga Namiiro, insists that Namiiro has not done anything for the district. She further maintains that Namiiro is born in Kabale-Bugonzi.
Meanwhile, Busiro East MP, Medard Lubega Sseggona who was denied the card which was given to Kyengera Mayor Mathias Walukagga, continues to spit fire, and has sworn to stand as an independent.
In a press conference he hosted at his Nakasozi-Buddo home, Sseggona said he has been asked by his constituents to stand as an independent in 2026.
Continuing to express reasons for his dissatisfaction, he said he vividly remembers the day he, in 2021, when his president Kyagulanyi was held in Gulu military barracks, he braved the possible outcome, and went to his rescue where other members had feared.
He added that there is no way he could have cowed away in the middle of a struggle calculated at removing a bad government from office.
