The Senior Procurement Officer for Yumbe district, Taban Kana, and Siraj Anule, an official of Miribe Foundation Limited, have been arrested for soliciting a bribe from a contractor.

They have been arrested by detectives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Kana is accused of soliciting a bribe of sh23m from Emmanuel Obua, the Managing Director of Apogee Logistics Company as a condition to be awarded the contract for the construction of culverts and the rehabilitation of a 4.3 km access road for the financial year 2022/2023.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bribe was paid through a bank account in the name of Miribe Foundation Limited and it was later withdrawn by Siraj, who delivered it to Kana.

Records from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit indicate that so far sh20m  has been recovered from the suspects.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region Police spokesperson says that the suspects are being detained at Arua Central Police Station as inquiries continue.
