The Senior Presidential Advisor for Political Affairs, Moses Byaruhanga has appealed to parents to encourage their children to embrace government’s poverty reduction interventions as a means of getting a reliable income rather than engaging in criminal activities like ‘eggaali’ (criminal hit gangs).

His message was on Saturday contained in a speech he sent through the State House Assistant Private Secretary in charge of women’s affairs, Josephine Kasaato, at the launch of the Greater House Mukono Foundation (GHMF), an initiative by volunteers aimed at promoting family values by rallying together houses in the region set up from way back in the 1950s, to foster development. The launch was conducted at Kyaggwe Councty headqaurters playground in Ggulu Cell, Mukono Municipality.

The forum is a multi-denominational, apolitical dream of God-fearing people headed by the head of Greater Mukono Born-again Pastors Destiny Forum, Bp. Samuel Lwandasa, with the core values of forging a unified front for restoration of neglected cultures.

Kasaato welcomed the GHMF idea, saying it is a long-term national development dream giving hope for restoration of lost cultures right from household level, adding that whoever attaches efforts to it will be laying a brick on the work of building a society free of evils like acid pouring, domestic violence, promiscuity and ungodliness.

Mukono Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka was sad to note that although President Museveni has constructed roads in the region, it is unfortunate that he scored a mere 23% victory in the last general elections, and attributed this to politicians bent on asking for their votes without telling voters facts.

Without mentioning names, Ndisaba also castigated politicians who simply ask for votes without laboring to educate voters on the responsibilities assumed with election into office, thus keeping people in the dark and in effect not asking the leaders for accountability.

Addressing the gathering, Mukono Community Liaison Officer (CLO) ASSP Shafique Kasujja lashed at parents who attack police for arresting their children found breaking the law, forgetting that they (parents) are partly to blame for having neglected bringing up their children as law abiding citizens.

He also cautioned them that uneducated children are the reserve force for the infamous ‘eggaali’ (criminal gangs) rascals.

Explaining the operation of the GHMF, the founder, Bp. Samuel Lwandasa said they have accepted to take the mantle of educating society that riotous activities that spill over to Mukono owing to its vicinity from Kampala are not rooted here but are only imported into the area.

“A lot of wrong, tarnishing messages have been spread about Mukono but as a foundation, we believe that we have the capacity to change this view”, Lwandasa said.

The Tororo High Court Circuit Judge Henry Kaweesa sensitized guests on succession law issues, and advised them to avoid tendencies of distributing deceased people’s property immediately after reading the will, saying this compromises opportunities for people wishing to make appeals over distribution which may be imbalanced.
